INSPIRATION

When writing Wake Up, I was really drawn to body-swap films. After recently watching Freaky Friday, I was impressed by how believable the performances were like how actors could genuinely make you believe two people had switched bodies. So, I wanted to challenge myself to see if I could pull that off myself. I researched the sub-genre and looked at its key elements, like waking up completely disoriented, identity confusion, strange behavioural changes, and characters struggling to adjust to lives that aren’t theirs.

Because my style leans heavily into emotional storytelling, I decided to centre the story on a “miserable” character who doesn’t appreciate his own life. Through the body-swap experience, he is forced to see things from a completely different perspective, ultimately changing for the better and realising what actually matters. Through a mix of comedy (one of my favourite and strongest writing styles) and a touch of drama, I was able to bring that journey to life in a way that felt both fun and heartfelt.

Note: This was my first attempt at writing a script, it can be a bit weird... But since then, both my writing skills and technical abilities have improved significantly.!!
