EDITING

Short Films

Editing Visiting Hours felt like entering a flow state. I had a clear vision from the start, which made the editing process feel natural and intuitive. The narrative guided every decision, with a focus on rhythmic cuts, emotional pacing, and moments that enhanced the film’s sense of nostalgia and loss. Colour also played an important role in the storytelling. I intentionally exaggerated the contrast between the warm tones of the past and the cooler tones of the present to reinforce the emotional difference between memories and reality. Looking back, I believe the colour correction could have been more refined, but the creative intention behind those choices remains an important part of the film’s visual language. It remains one of the projects I look back on most fondly, as every creative choice was driven by the feeling I wanted the audience to experience.

WAKE UP COVER.png

Wake Up was the first longer short film I edited, making organisation and time management essential. Working with a larger amount of footage challenged me to keep the project structured while shaping a clear and engaging narrative.

Through careful performance selection and story structuring, I focused on making each character feel distinct and ensuring the audience could follow their journey. The project taught me a great deal about managing larger edits and strengthened my skills in storytelling and post-production organisation.

This was my first project editing to a director’s vision. While maintaining the film’s slower pace, I worked to keep the edit engaging through careful pacing, continuity, and attention to detail. I also followed the director’s desired washed-out visual style through colour correction. When the production audio was corrupted, we had to improvise ADR recordings, giving me valuable experience in ADR synchronisation and audio problem-solving. Looking back, I can see how additional sound layers could have made the dialogue feel more natural within the film’s world, but the project taught me a great deal about collaboration and adaptability in post-production.

Edited using OBS &  DaVinci  Resolve

For my Meet-Cute essay, I recorded my screen using OBS while collecting and analysing meet-cute scenes from various films. I then structured the essay by editing these examples together, focusing on pacing, rhythm, and how different films construct this key romantic moment. The final piece combines research and editing practice to demonstrate how meet-cutes have evolved across time.

I created my postmodern cinema essay using Canva’s premium version to design and animate the stickers and all the on-screen text. I then exported each section as a video file and brought everything together in DaVinci Resolve for the final edit. This allowed me to have more control over pacing, structure, and rhythm, as well as refine how the visuals interacted with the argument I was making. I feel that my editing choices helped strengthen the overall essay, making the ideas more engaging and easier to follow, while also reinforcing key concepts of postmodern cinema through visual style, layering, and playful use of text and imagery.

Social Media

Editing social media content is a side job I do in my free time. I have been working with Lalyspaella for two years now, editing weekly reels and posts. It’s a long-distance collaboration, so the client records all the footage, and I am responsible for the editing process. Sometimes I receive really strong, well-shot material, and other times I have to get creative and do a bit of “magic” in the edit to make it work. I stay up to date with social media trends and spend a lot of time on different platforms, which has helped me develop editing techniques aimed at making content more engaging and helping it reach a wider organic audience.
